Critique of High Places lyrics
From "Namer"
I'll buy a plot of land
One full of trees
Where I can practice taxonomy
Me and my old dog we are the same
We go to sleep and we dream of names
It's not a bad life
More like a game
For me and my old dog Namer of Names
Critique: Aw man, why do I have to criticize this?! It's too perfect and sweet! I guess she uses "me" as a subject, as indicated by the subsequent use of "we", but you just gotta let that one slide! You just gotta respect High Places' right to do that sort of thing, you know?
From "Vision's The First"
The picture's clear but it's going black
And your favorite song's still the hidden track
You gave a little bit and they took a lot
Of your quietude and your unsaid thoughts
Critique: Again, perfect. Totally nails all of you--you know who you are!--out there who like the hidden track the most. And you old folks who are steadily going blind.
From "Freaked Flight"
We must go now
And finally heed to the Calling
But risks are so terrifying
So we keep on stalling and stalling
I'll close my eyes and I'll take the first step
You're close behind, you're there when I misstep
We can try and try
We might as well try
Critique: Mary's cadence is too beautiful in this song! Go High Places!
From "New Grace"
One is for the money
And two are for the show
Knock three times I'll be ready
Stop by before you go (And it goes...)
Critique: Sound familiar? Hmm? Still don't know??? Dude, you're totally gonna kick yourself:
Nice ref, High Places!
From "Universal"
I have tried to find a Universal Truth
But the Truth is: I'm much less than insignificant
I'm a pinprick on a pinprick on a pinprick of Time and Space
It takes a lot of guts to be a little baby in this place
Critique: Humble High Places!
From "Cosmonaut"
And we're all full of questions
And we would like to know just exactly where we came from
And exactly where we'll go
Well I know my limitations
And I know that I don't know
But still I know the constellations and I know the falling snow.
Critique: Aw, there goes High Places again!
I'll buy a plot of land
One full of trees
Where I can practice taxonomy
Me and my old dog we are the same
We go to sleep and we dream of names
It's not a bad life
More like a game
For me and my old dog Namer of Names
