Yea Big + Kid Static @ Main Street Jukebox 6/10/07

I saw two rappers whom I'm not familiar with at all except that they were touring with Rapider Than Horsepower and they were associated with The Mae Shi somehow. Some guy in my town booked this show at our rebuilt record store, the Main Street Jukebox. Yea Big + Kid Static had too much energy for a crowd of about 15. I invited some of my friends, but only 3 showed up. They were fantastic. Yea Big would cue up the beats on his tiny Powerbook, then they would jump and jerk their bodies around with weird rhymes and stage [floor] dives that at one point cut Yea Big's chin open forcing him to rap with a paper towel on his chin for the rest of the show. Something was really lovable about them; they were always smiling and at one point they breakdanced with the audience. Kid Static was obviously the better rapper, often taking entire verses while Yea Big would cue things up with single words or phrases. I don't know how big he is, but I kind of expect him (and Yea Big) to get pretty popular. They usually operate alone, and they only have one 7" with 4 tracks, but still, what a good relationship. These guys should stay together. I can't imagine seeing them apart.

I missed Rapider Than Horsepower. The entire show was about 1.5 hours and RTH played first. I was disappointed, but the guitarist was there afterwards and he translated my Japanese shirt for me. Graffiti artist.
